One of the elements that I started to use while I’m teaching is finding a way to combine the method of giving a lot of details, which are very important to use the technique in the best way possible
And PRINCIPLES to the same technique. Basically a GUIDELINE to show how to approach the guard pass or the guard game.
People that know me, knows that I could sit the whole day talking about a certain technique that has a lot of details, some of which are important and some have minor impact.
However none of these details will have a direct impact same as GENERAL PRINCIPLE that guide you in the right direction. SIMPLE enough to learn it once and you WILL NEVER forget it. You can use it tomorrow and it will NEVER let you down.
As an example we’ll take a spider lasso pass. If I’ll say “close your elbows and try to break one of his grips. (either the lasso grip or the spider grip) and start working from there.” it’s a simple guidance that allows you to pass a guard that has many different passing variations.
Of course this same principle has to follow with technical details and a proper training, but this method will change the way you think and the way you pass (in our example) and will make you think independently when dealing with the situation
